The flamboyant pianist met Scott Thorson, 17, in 1976 and hired him as his companion, which resulted in a five-year romantic relationship. In 1982, however, Liberace was tainted with scandal after Thorson filed a $113 million palimony lawsuit against him. Thorson’s later memoir about the relationship, Behind the Candelabra: My Life with Liberace, was adapted into the HBO movie that aired in May with Matt Damon as Thorson and Michael Douglas playing Liberace.
